Hello. Perhaps you can give me some advise. I have a dream: that someday I’ll be able to convince my DH to get a vintage camper; nothing fancy, just something small enough for the two of us to go off into the sunset when the fancy strikes. The problem is his father did a number on him and his siblings when they were growing up, by “taking the family hostage” (my husband’s words), for 2 months during the summer in a cramped RV where the much limited space had to be shared by 3 boisterous boys and a baby, plus mom & dad! As you can well imagine, it wasn’t a fun experience for anybody; but to make matters worse, the boys–particularly my hubby, who was the oldest–were in charge of the never too pleasant chore of emptying the toilet receptacle each day (yuck!). It was during those summers of long ago that DH vowed NEVER to set foot in “one of those contraptions” again, as long as he lived! So there you have it. Although I can surely sympathize with his unpleasant associations from the past, I honest & truly would DIE for my own vintage camper. I have assured him in every way I can think of that none of his childhood experiences would be relived, that circumstances would be altogether different now, etc., etc. I’ve even offered to empty the toilet myself! But to no avail. WHAT CAN I DO? Thanks for any feedback. By the way, I love your website! I drool over all those cute campers too.
Sincerely,
Monica, the Armchair RV’er

Monica,
Do you have any friends with campers that you can go on a little over nighter with?
It might give him a fun new outlook.
Somehow you have to get his mind changed with new and improved memories.
Best wishes!!

HELLO!

I would LOVE TO FIND A VINTAGE CAMPER…1950’S – 1960’S IN GOOD SHAPE. I eat, sleep and dream about having my own little camper to get away in! My family also wants me to find one so I would not spend hours on the computer searching. LOL!

I would prefer to find one in the states of Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesotta, Missouri, Kansas.

Thanks for your help!

Hello:
I love your website! My mom and dad are currently trying to find a shasta/vintage trailer and your site is so fun. I was just wondering if you had any good websites as to where I could possibly find one in the Washington/Idaho/Oregon area. Most websites I look at tend to be on the other side of the country, so any help would be great. Thanks so much!!

Hello! I love this blog. So my husband and I have a little
Business that we started. We build vintage and rustic furniture, art pieces and so on out of old woods and repurposed materials. Anyways, I would LOVE, LOVE to find a little vintage camper that would compliment us, our style and what we do so we can travel and sleep easier than we do now! If you could let me know where to find a cute but not very expensive preferably used, please let me know!! You’re awesome keep it up!!!

hi,

glad to find your website!

i’ve been searching for a compact camper to travel and live with my dog in, less than 13ft. i’m becoming a bit obsessed with all the ridiculously cute photos, but want to start simple and cheap, then restore over time. currently located in northwest new york near woodstock. any tips?? i already look at tincan and craigslist daily. any contacts in the area who sell 😉 i’m becoming desperate and need something by the end of the summer, the sooner the better!

Hi,
My hubby is a city boy and so won’t let me get a camper. However, he has agreed to let me recreate the inside of a vintage camper in an alcove of our basement. I need help with finding a dinette set and cupboards/countertop to start with. Over time then I want to finish the walls, ceiling and floor and then add things like the knick-knack shelves and light fixtures.

Where do I start? I’ve been looking online but other than buying a complete vintage camper, I don’t know how else to get the “parts” that I need. Any help for me?
Thanks!

You might need to go to a custom cabinet shop if your husband won’t let you gut a camper.
Also, contact people who do camper restorations

Oh, and just as explanation (forgot this part) —- this will be my craft area, so the cupboards will be storage for my supplies and the table will be my work area. But I really want it to look just like the inside of a vintage trailer, with all the kitsch and retro fabrics. Thanks!

My sis wanted to turn it into a craft studio, I would love to theme it as a Pageant girl or love of fishing themed trailer. Forgot to mention it is a 1968 tag along.
Just need the funds so am selling it as a fixer upper. Sure have gotten excited though seeing all the interest and rehabbing of these Vintage tin can tourist babies.

Purchased a 1961 Forester Can Ham and giddy about it. It’s sealed and camp ready but does need some love and care. My project is to restore only to original state not a total redo. Always searching for good DIY sites. I hosted a Girls Camp Weekend (Glamping) and turned on my girlfriends to Vintage camping. Can you recommend and DIY sites?
