Restoration Tips/Resources

Here are a few places to look if you are interested in restoring your own trailer

or if you are interested in having someone restore it for you.

The Tin Can Tourist  has an extensive list of

Vintage Trailer Restoration websites as well as a wealth of other great info.

You tube has some good video’s on restoration. I’ve downloaded a few on this page.

I am looking for a product to polish the exterior of my 68 Silver Streak – it is a sister to the Airstream – but does not have the extremely shiny mirror finish. The ol gal just needs a little shine – any ideas on what to use and where to find it? Thanks!

What type of fabric do you recommend for re-upholstering mattress, cushions, etc? Also, curtains?

I have used a heavier fabric for upholostry and curtains – they hold up better than a cheap cotten blend. I ordered my bench fabric from Tonic Living out of Ontario Canada – google them – beautiful retro heavy fabric.

I plan to make my curtains for my Silver Streak out of a duck cloth – putting a light color on the back side and the decorative, colorful pattern on the inside. BIG windows in my trailer – and remember – the sun eats fabric alive – I always put a cover on the back of my benches – to sheild them from fading in the sun.

I’d love the info for polishing up a Silver Streak, too! We brought home a 1969 SS two weeks ago and would love to make her exterior look a bit brighter.

We recently bought a 1986 Skamper 13OOT trailer.. It is really cute and in nice shape. We would like to paint the outside it is beige and has a dark blue and a burgundy strip.. We want to know if anyone had a idea of what we could do to jazz her up a little. Can’t find anything on Skampers
